I’m very confused by the 5 star reviews.This book was one of the worse I’ve read in a while.************ Spoilers************The charactersGwen, our heroine is a childish, dirty mouth alcoholic. She’s also incredibly stubborn, naive and lacks common sense. Her love interest, Grey is big, arrogant ,violent and stupid. He shouts and screams for no reason. And he gets physically aggressive with Gwen but it’s played off like foreplay. It makes me sick. Their banter is so childish and stupid —I feel like my IQ dropped reading it. Gwen having the knowledge of the 21st century, you would think she would contribute to the betterment of their society. No. She doesn’t. She brings football, card games, drinking coffee and her iPhone playlist. I don’t know how her iPhone lasted so long even with batteries. It’s so ridiculous. I knew she was inept when in the beginning she didn’t realize that she was in another time. Yes her eyes were bandaged but ...seriously in all those days she didn’t use the bathroom once? Ugh.The storyIt serves no purpose. There’s this big prophecy about the main characters being destined to be together no matter their different time period. Okkkk. And? The story is so boring, I kept going to see if there were more. No, there isn’t. Gwen an accomplished surgeon from the 21st century gets transported to the 16th century to become a wife and mother. That’s it.Then to add a bit of excitement the author throws in a bad guy, an abduction and an almost rape. Yayyyyyyy, just what we needed to round up this comedy of errors.This book is so willful lacking it’s a crime. If you’d like to bludgeon yourself to death, I recommend reading it. “The Prophecy” by Kim Sakwa tells the story of Gwen Reynolds, an established surgeon who up and leaves her stable and secure career to follow her heart and travel to Scotland. Little does she know that a car accident will end up being her connection to the past where she’ll be rescued by Greylen MacGreggor, the one she’s been destined to meet. As a Scotish laird, Greylen has been waiting for a 30-year prophecy to come true, allowing him to meet the woman of his heart’s desires, who ironically comes from the 21st century. I’ve read many time traveling romances, but this one has a creative plot that links present day to the 1500s in Scotland. The lingering passion and delicate patience Greylen displays while waiting for his love to wake up is beautifully written. The author has diligently done her research about 16th century Scotland, offering up descriptions, dialogue, and lifestyle customs that accurately showcase the time period. Language like “donned a pair of breeches” and “returned to the keep” offers readers a clear understanding of which character’s perspective is being used to tell the story, as the point of view alternates. The characters, including Isabelle, Greylen’s sister, his mother, Lady Madelyn, and his first-in-command, Gavin, are easy to love the more you get to know them. Whether you’re a fan of romance or not, this novel will leave you a firm believer in fate and making the impossible seem possible.
